Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does a central vacuum system work?

A central vacuum uses a permanently installed pipe network connected to a main vacuum unit. A hose is connected to wall inlets around the property, carrying dust and debris back to the central unit.

  • How often does a central vacuum system need servicing?

Maintenance requirements depend on the system, but the collection container or bag, filters and inlets should be checked regularly and serviced according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Can a central vacuum unit be installed in a garage?

Yes, many central vacuum units can be installed in a garage, utility room or similar suitable location, provided the manufacturer's installation and environmental requirements are followed.

  • Can a central vacuum system be retrofitted into an existing house?

Yes, although installation is generally easier during a new build or major renovation. Existing properties require suitable routes for the vacuum pipework between the inlet points and central unit.

  • How much does it cost compared to a regular vacuum?

A central vacuum system has a higher initial cost because it requires a central unit, pipework and wall inlets. The total cost depends on the property size, number of inlets and complexity of the installation.
