Product Overview
The QRS Fire Sleeve is an essential component for fire compartmentation in buildings, particularly where plastic ventilation ducts pass through fire-rated walls. It consists of a high-performance graphite-based intumescent material within a continuous pressed steel shell. Upon exposure to heat, the material reacts by exerting pressure on the duct, forming a carbonaceous char that effectively blocks fire from passing through. The sleeve is designed to be retrofitted into walls, offering a convenient and flexible fire protection solution.
Key Features
✔ Intumescent Technology – Forms an insulation plug under heat to prevent fire and smoke migration
✔ Easy to Install – Can be fitted without mechanical support, relying on wall construction to hold in place
✔ Retrofit Capability – Designed with an opening lid for retrofitting into existing walls
✔ No Need for Fixings – Relies on tight wall apertures and wall construction to secure the sleeve
✔ Up to 2-Hour Fire Rating – Provides robust fire protection in both solid masonry and plasterboard walls

Installation Information
The QRS Fire Sleeve should be installed where plastic ventilation ducts penetrate fire-rated walls to ensure fire compartmentation. It does not require mechanical fixing, relying on the wall construction to hold it in place. To install, the following steps are recommended:
- Install the sleeve around the duct and align the wall construction tightly around the sleeve.
- If retrofitting, hinge open the lid, wrap it tightly around the duct, and close the lid. Secure it with the self-adhesive tape provided (or self-tapping screws for circular fire sleeves).
- Once positioned correctly within the wall, seal the perimeter with QuelStop Intumescent Acoustic Acrylic Sealant.
For installations involving larger holes or other services, the QRS Fire Sleeve can be used in conjunction with QuelStop Fire Batt for added protection. When installing multiple ducts or sleeves, they should be installed tightly together or with sufficient space to accommodate fire batt materials.
Full installation guidelines and a detailed step-by-step guide are available for each specific use case. For more technical details, we recommend consulting the Quelfire Technical Team.
