Performance
Solid rigid ducting offers superior airflow performance compared to flexible PVC or aluminium ducts. It is suitable for compliance with Part F Building Regulations.
Installation
For optimal airtightness and durability, we recommend using plastic ducting sealant and aluminium duct sealing tape:
- Apply duct sealant to pipe connections.
- Push fittings together.
- Apply aluminium duct sealing tape over the joint.
Alternatively, use self-sealing fittings, which reduce installation time by up to 70% and can be easily dismantled if needed.
Insulation of Ductwork
If ducting is in a cold area (e.g., loft space), it should be insulated to prevent condensation. The insulation must:
- Be 25mm thick
- Have a thermal conductivity of 0.04W/(m.k) or lower
If no loft space is available, insulation is still needed for intake and exhaust legs that carry cold air in warm spaces. Insulation can be achieved by wrapping PVC ducting with 25mm duct wrap with a silver foil face and 25mm rockwool.
Note: Bubble wrap (foil wrap with air bubbles) is no longer compliant with building control regulations.
Available Sizes
- 110x54mm to 100mm
- 204x60mm to 125mm
- 220x90mm to 150mm
For larger ductwork, we recommend using metal spiral ducting and fittings for enhanced strength.
