What is C-MEV & D-MEV?

The current Building Regulations Approved Document F gives examples of four main methods of ventilation with the most popular being System 3, continuous mechanical extract ventilation.

This can be achieved using a single centralised extract unit such as the Sentinel Multivent ducted from ‘wet’ rooms (c-MEV) or by decentralised individual fans (d-MEV) in the ‘wet’ rooms. The fans run continuously at near silent levels providing a simple and effective form of extract ventilation. If used in conjunction with a positive ventilation unit (PIV) there is no further requirement for window trickle vents. 

C-MEV 

A centralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation (c-MEV) system is a low energy, continuous mechanical extract ventilation system designed with multiple extract points to simultaneously draw moisture laden air out of the wet rooms (bathrooms and kitchen) providing a quieter and more efficient system compared to separate fans.

Primarily for use in dwellings with 6 wet rooms or less, the quiet and compact Mechanical Extraction Ventilation system is usually installed in a roof space or cupboard and runs continuously at a normal low ventilation rate, extracting stale polluted air from rooms where the most moisture is generated, e.g. kitchens and bathrooms. A flow of fresh air from outside is supplied by a Pozidry (Positive Input Ventilation unit) or window vents.

Homeowners can make significant energy savings as there is no need for noisy extractor fans in each wet room which create multiple breakout points in the building, creating draughts, air leakage and heat loss.

D-MEV

A decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation (d-MEV) system is a low energy, continuous mechanical extract ventilation system designed to replace conventional bathroom fans and draw moisture laden air out of the wet rooms (bathrooms and utility) providing a quieter and more efficient system compared to separate fans.

Usually installed in the bathroom wall or ceiling in replacement of the conventional fan extracting continuously at a normal low ventilation rate stale polluted air. A flow of fresh air from outside is supplied by a Pozidry Positive Input Ventilation unit or window vents.
